Bhagavad Gita and Jyotish - about Three Gates to the Hell


BG Chapter 16. दैवासुरसंपद्विभागयोगः daiva-asura-saṁpad-vibhāga-yogaḥ
Discerning the Divine & Demoniac Natures.

त्रिविधं नरकस्येदं द्वारं नाशनमात्मन: ।
काम: क्रोधस्तथा लोभस्तस्मादेतत्‍त्रयं त्यजेत् ॥ २१ ॥
tri-vidhaṁ narakasyedaṁ dvāraṁ nāśanam ātmanaḥ |
kāmaḥ krodhas tathā lobhas tasmād etat trayaṁ tyajet ||21||
Translation: The gates to the hell of three types (tri-vidhaṁ narakasya-idaṁ dvāraṁ) are destruction of the self (nāśanam ātmanaḥ); [these three types are] lust, anger as well as greed (kāmaḥ krodhas tathā lobhas). Therefore (tasmād) one must give up these three (etat trayaṁ tyajet).

एतैर्विमुक्त: कौन्तेय तमोद्वारैस्त्रिभिर्नर: ।
आचरत्यात्मन: श्रेयस्ततो याति परां गतिम् ॥२२॥
etair vimuktaḥ kaunteya tamo-dvārais tribhir naraḥ |
ācaratyātmanaḥ śreyas tato yāti parāṁ gatim ||22||
Translation: The man who has escaped (naraḥ vimuktaḥ) these three gates of ignorance (etair tamo-dvārais tribhir), O son of Kuntī (kaunteya), performs acts conducive to self-realization (ācaraty-ātmanaḥ śreyas) and thus takes the highest path (tato yāti parāṁ gatim).

Chapter about yogas and kārakas

त्रिषडायाधिपाः सर्वे ग्रहाः पापफलाः स्मृताः ॥४॥
triṣaḍāyādhipāḥ sarve grahāḥ pāpaphalāḥ smṛtāḥ ||4||
Translation: Being Lords of Triṣaḍāya (the 3rd, the 6th and the 11th) (tri-ṣaḍ-āya-adhipāḥ), all grahas are givers of evil results (sarve grahāḥ pāpa-phalāḥ), they declared (smṛtāḥ).

लग्नंकेन्द्रत्रिकोणत्वाद्‌ विशेषेण शुभप्रदम्‌ । …॥३॥
lagnaṃ kendratrikoṇatvād‌ viśeṣeṇa śubhapradam‌ | 3 ½
Translation: [Lord of] Lagna (lagnaṃ), which is both kendra and trikoṇa (kendra-trikoṇa-tvād‌), especially auspicious (viśeṣeṇa śubha-pradam).



Comment:
Kāma (Lust) is signified by the 3rd house
Krodha (Anger) is signified by the 6th house
Lobha (Greed) is signified by the 11th house
Ātma (Self) is signified by Lagna
