शनिपादं त्रिकोणेषु चतुरस्रे द्विपादकम् । त्रिपादं सप्तमे विप्र त्रिदशे पूर्णमेवहि ॥१२ ॥
śanipādaṃ trikoṇeṣu caturasre dvipādakam | tripādaṃ saptame vipra tridaśe pūrṇamevahi ||12||
Translation: Saturn aspects the 5th/9th houses with one foot (śani-pādaṃ tri-koṇeṣu), 4th/8th with two feet (catur-asre dvi-pādakam), 7th with three feet (tri-pādaṃ saptame) and 3rd/10th with full aspect (tri-daśe pūrṇam), oh Brahmin (vipra).

vṛścikastu tulāṃ tyaktvā karkaṃ meṣaṃ mṛgaṃ tathā | kuṃbhaśca makaraṃ tyaktvā meṣaṃ karkaṃ tulāṃ dvija ||12||
Translation: Scorpio (vṛścikas-tu), avoiding Libra (tulāṃ tyaktvā), [aspects] Cancer, Aries and Capricorn (karkaṃ meṣaṃ mṛgaṃ), in the same manner (tathā); and Aquarius (kumbhaś-ca), avoiding Capricorn (makaraṃ tyaktvā), [aspects] Aries, Cancer and Libra (meṣaṃ karkaṃ tulāṃ), oh Brahmin (dvija).

उभयस्थस्तु भान्चादिः पश्यन्त्युभयसंस्थितान् । निकटस्थं विना खेटा निरीक्ष्यन्ते द्विजोत्तम ॥१२॥
ubhayasthāstu bhānvādyāḥ paśyantyubhayasaṃsthitān | nikaṭasthaṃ vinā kheṭā nirīkṣyante dvijottama ||12||
Translation: Planets Sun etc. (bhānu-ādyāḥ) situated in dual signs (ubhaya-sthās-tu) aspect (paśyanti) those that are located in dual signs (ubhaya-saṃsthitān). The planets etc. (kheṭāḥ) do not aspect those which are standing nearby (nikaṭa-sthaṃ vinā nirīkṣyante), oh the best of Brahmins (dvija-uttama).

शनिर्देवगुरुर्भौमः परे च वीक्षणेऽधिकाः । पदार्धं त्रिपदं पूर्णं वदन्ति गणकोत्तमाः ॥१२॥
śanirdevagururbhaumaḥ pare ca vīkṣaṇe’dhikāḥ | padārdhaṁ tripadaṃ pūrṇaṃ vadanti gaṇakottamāḥ ||12||
Translation: Saturn, Jupiter and Mars (śanir-devagurur-bhaumaḥ) also (ca) have additionally (adhikāḥ) special aspects (pare vikṣaṇe). Astrologers (gaṇakā janāḥ) call (vadaṃti) these aspects as ¼ or 1 foot (pada), ½ or 2 feet (ardhaṃ), ¾ or 3 feet (tri-padaṃ) and full aspect (pūrṇaṃ).
