मैत्रेय उवाच
रामकृष्णादयो ये ये ह्यवतारा रमापतेः। तेऽपिजीवांशसंयुक्ताः किंवाब्रूहि मुनीश्वर॥१॥
maitreya uvāca
rāmakṛṣṇādayo ye ye hyavatārā ramāpateḥ |
te’pi jīvāṃśasaṃyuktāḥ kiṃ vā brūhi munīśvara || 1||
Translation: Maitreya said (maitreya uvāca): Rāma, Kṛṣṇa and others, who are Avataras of Viṣṇu (‘husband of Lakṣmī’) (rāma-kṛṣṇa-ādayo ye ye hy-avatārā ramā-pateḥ) – if they also have Individual soul part (Jīvāṃśa)
(te’pi jīvāṃśasaṃyuktāḥ kiṃ vā), kindly tell me, O excellent sage (brūhi muniśvara).

पराशर उवाच
रामः कृष्णश्च भो विप्र नृसिंहःसूकरस्तथा । एते पूर्णावताराश्चह्यन्ये जीवांशकान्विताः॥२॥
parāśara uvāca
rāmaḥ kṛṣṇaśca bho vipra nṛsiṃhaḥ sūkarastathā |
ete pūrṇāvatārāśca hyanye jīvāṃśakānvitāḥ || 2||
Translation: Parāśara said (parāśarauvāca): O Brahmin (bho vipra), Rāma, Kṛṣṇa, Nṛsiṃha and also Sūkara (rāmaḥ kṛṣṇaś-ca nṛsiṃhaḥ sūkaras-tathā) – they are Pūrṇa Avataras, i.e. have 100% Paramātmāṁśa (the Supreme Soul) (ete pūrṇa-avatārāś-ca), and others have Jīvāṃśa as well (hy-anyejīvāṃśaka-anvitāḥ).

अवताराण्यनेकानि ह्यजस्य परमात्मनः। जीवानांकर्मफलदो ग्रहरूपीजनार्दनः॥ ३॥
avatārāṇyanekāni hyajasya paramātmanaḥ |
jīvānāṃ karmaphalado graharūpī janārdanaḥ || 3||
Translation: Although there are many incarnations of the unborn Supreme Soul (avatārāṇy-anekāni hy-ajasya paramātmanaḥ), just incarnated in the form of planets Lord Janārdana (graha-rūpī janārdanaḥ) gives results to living beings according to their deeds (jīvānāṃ karma-phala-do).

Janārdana = name of Visnu, ‘world-mover”, “the protector from negative forces”.
jana – creature, living being, man, person, race
ardana - moving restlessly, pain, trouble, excitement, disturbing, distressing, tormenting

"… he who makes the Asuras tremble is Janārdana." (Mahābhārata Udyoga Parva, Chapter 68, Stanza 6). ….tadbhāvātpuṇḍarīkākṣo dasyutrāsājjanārdanaḥ ॥6॥

दैत्यानां बलनाशाय देवानांबलवृद्धये । धर्मसंस्थापनार्थाय ग्रहाज्जाताःशुभाः क्रमात्‌॥ ४॥
daityānāṃ balanāśāya devānāṃ balavṛddhaye |
dharmasaṃsthāpanārthāya grahājjātāḥ śubhāḥ kramāt‌ || 4 ||
Translation:  To destroy the power of demons (daityānāṃ bala-nāśāya), to increase the power of gods (devānāṃ bala-vṛddhaye), to establish the religion (dharma-saṃsthāpana-arthāya) auspicious incarnations have taken place from the planets (grahāj-jātāḥ śubhāḥ) according to order (kramāt)‌.

रामोऽवतारः सूर्यस्य चन्द्रस्ययदुनायकः। नृसिंहोभूमिपुत्रस्य बुद्धःसोमसुतस्य च॥ ५॥
rāmo’vatāraḥ sūryasya candrasya yadunāyakaḥ |
nṛsiṃho bhūmiputrasya buddhaḥ somasutasya ca || 5||
Translation: Rāma is avatāra of the Sun (rāmo ’vatāraḥ sūryasya); Kṛṣṇa (‘leader of Yadu’s’) is [avatāra] of the Moon (candrasya yadu-nāyakaḥ); Nṛsiṃha is [avatāra] of Mars (‘son of the Earth’) (nṛsiṃho bhūmi-putrasya), and Buddha is [avatāra] of Mercury (‘son of the Moon’) (buddhaḥ somasutasya ca).

Note: avatāra m. descent (especially of a deity from heaven), appearance of any deity upon earth (but more particularly the incarnations of Viṣṇu in ten principal forms)
nāyaka m. a guide, leader, chief, lord, principal

वामनो विबुधेज्यस्य भार्गवोभार्गवस्य च । कूर्मोभास्करपुत्रस्य सैंहिकेयस्यसूकरः॥ ६॥
vāmano vibudhejyasya bhārgavo bhārgavasya ca |
kūrmo bhāskaraputrasya saiṃhikeyasya sūkaraḥ ||6||
Translation: Vāmana is [avatāra] of Jupiter (‘teacher of gods’) (vāmano vibudha-ijyasya); Paraśurāma (Bhārgava) is [avatāra] of Venus (Bhārgava) (bhārgavobhārgavasya), and Kūrma (‘tortoise’) is [avatāra] of Saturn (‘son of the Sun (‘making light’)’) (cakūrmobhāskara-putrasya); Sūkara/Varāha(boar’) is [avatāra] of Rāhu (‘child of Siṃhikā’) (saiṃhikeyasya sūkaraḥ).
Note: bhārgava – is epithet of Paraśurāma, who is descendant of Bhṛgu

केतोर्मीनावतारश्च ये चान्येतेऽपि खेटजाः। परात्मांशोऽधिकोयेषु ते सर्वे खेचराभिधाः॥ ७॥
ketormīnāvatāraśca ye cānye te'pi kheṭajāḥ |
parātmāṃśo'dhiko yeṣu te sarve khecarābhidhāḥ || 7||
Translation: Matsya is avatāra of Ketu (ketor-mīna-avatāraś-ca). And other avatars are also manifested from planets (ye ca-anye te ’pi kheṭajāḥ). Who have predominance of the Supreme Soul (Parātmāṃśa) (parātmāṃśo ’dhiko yeṣu), those are called planets (Khecara) (te sarve khecarābhidhāḥ).
Note: Chandra, Lal, Pathaka: parātmāṃśo'dhiko yeṣu te sarve -> paramātmāṃśamadhikaṃ yeṣu te
khe-cara - moving in the air, flying, planets, any aerial being (as a messenger of the gods)

जीवांशो ह्यधिको येषु जीवास्ते वै प्रकीर्तितः। सूर्यादिभ्योग्रहेभ्यश्च परमात्मांशनिःसृताः॥ ८॥
रामकृष्णादयः सर्वे ह्यवताराभवन्ति वै । तत्रैवते विलीयन्तेपुनः कार्योत्तरेसदा॥ ९॥
jīvāṃśo hyadhiko yeṣu jīvāste vai prakīrtitaḥ |
sūryādibhyo grahebhyaśca paramātmāṃśaniḥsṛtāḥ || 8||
rāmakṛṣṇādayaḥ sarve hyavatārā bhavanti vai |
tatraiva te vilīyante punaḥ kāryottare sadā || 9||
Translation: Those, who have predominance of Individual Soul (Jīvāṃśa) (jīvāṃśo hyadhiko yeṣu), are called ‘living being’ (Jīva) (jīvās-te vai prakīrtitaḥ).
And from planets Sun etc. (sūrya-ādibhyo grahebhyaś-ca) all avatars Rāma, Kṛṣṇa etc. come, separated with predominance of the Supreme Soul (Paramātmāṃśa) (paramātmāṃśa-niḥsṛtāḥ rāma-kṛṣṇa-ādayaḥ sarve hy-avatārā bhavanti vai). And they are dissolved again [within corresponding graha] (tatra-eva te vilīyante punaḥ) every time, when their higher mission [is completed] (kārya-uttare sadā).

जीवांशनिःसृतास्तेषां तेभ्यो जाता नरादयः। तेऽपितत्रैव लीयन्तेतेऽव्यक्ते समयन्तिहि॥ १०॥
jīvāṃśaniḥsṛtāsteṣāṃ tebhyo jātā narādayaḥ |
te’pi tatraiva līyante te'vyakte samayanti hi || 10||
Translation: People and other living being born from them (plаnets Sun etc.) (teṣāṃ tebhyo jātā nara-ādayaḥ), separated with predominance of Individual Soul (Jīvāṃśa) (jīvāṃśa-niḥsṛtās), again cling to them (planets) (te ’pi tatra-eva līyante), which merge to unmanifested (Avyakta) [in moment of Pralaya] (te ’vyakte samayanti hi).

इदं ते कथितंविप्र सर्वंयस्मिन्‌ भवेदिति। भूतान्यपि भविष्यन्ति तत्तज्जातन्तितद्विदः॥ ११॥
idaṃ te kathitaṃ vipra sarvaṃ yasmin‌ bhavediti |
bhūtānyapi bhaviṣyanti tattajjānanti tadvidaḥ || 11||
Translation: O Brahmin! (vipra) This is knowledge about That [unmanifested element] in which this universe is created (idaṃ te kathitaṃ sarvaṃ yasmin bhaved-iti)‌. Who know this (tad-vidaḥ), they know both the past and the future (bhūtāny-api bhaviṣyanti tat-taj-jānanti).

विना तज्ज्यैतिषं नान्योज्ञातुं शक्नोतिकर्हिचित्‌।तस्मादवश्यमध्येयं ब्राह्मणैश्चविशेषतः॥ १२॥
vinā tajjyaitiṣaṃ nānyo jñātuṃ śaknoti karhicit‌ |
tasmādavaśyamadhyeyaṃ brāhmaṇeśca viśeṣataḥ|| 12||
Translation: Without that knowledge of Jyotiṣa nobody ever is able to know (vinā taj-jyaitiṣaṃ nānyo jñātuṃ śaknoti karhicit). Therefore it (Jyotiṣa) is necessary to be learned and especially by Brahmins (tasmād-avaśyamadhyeyaṃ brāhmaṇaiś-ca viśeṣataḥ).

यो नरः शास्त्रमज्ञात्वाज्यौतिषं खलु निन्दति। रौरवंनरकं भुक्त्वाचान्धत्वं चान्यजन्मनि॥१३॥
yo naraḥ śāstramajñātvā jyautiṣaṃ khalu nindati |
rauravaṃ narakaṃ bhuktvā cāndhatvaṃ cānyajanmani|| 13||
Translation: The person who criticizes astrology without really knowing this science (yo naraḥ śāstram-ajñātvā jyautiṣaṃ khalu nindati), [after death,] will suffer in the Raurava hell (rauravaṃ narakaṃ bhuktvā) and will be born again as a blind person (ca-andhatvaṃ ca-anya-janmani).
